22nd April, 2019 marked the 49th edition of International Earth Day. Every year this global event is celebrated all over the world with numerous countries taking part in order to spread awareness and promote the welfare of the planet.
The Earth is being plagued by various issues that cause is to bleed and die a slow death. We, humans are the main cause of this and we need to become aware and play our part in reducing the damage done to Mother Earth. Global Warming; Water, Air and Soil Pollution; Loss of Wildlife and their natural habitats; Loss of diversity, Wildlife poaching and illegal trafficking & deforestation are among many other are the leading causes for the current condition of the planet. It is high time we do something for the Earth that has always given us so much.
World Earth Day is a day spent promoting the welfare of the Earth by political action and civic participation where people march, sign petitions, plant trees, clean up towns and roads to accelerate work towards conservation and sustainability. The reason behind the title of Earth Day was because it rhymes with the word ‘Birthday; and was suggested by number of people in 1969.
This year, that is 2019, the theme was Word Earth Day was “Protect Our Species”. The primary focus of the day was to focus on saving species which are on the verge of extinction due to climate change, deforestation, pollution and illegal poaching.
The organisation behind it all it is the Earth Day Network. It helps spreads awareness on environmental issues across the globe by organizing various events to raise awareness on saving the endangered species of the world. It urged people to say no to herbicides and pesticides and follow a plant based diet.
