Easter is a time of hope and joy. Christ has risen again. Everywhere around the world, you can see people celebrating, singing and rejoicing. Some cities even celebrate this religious holiday with festivals and outdoor markets, while others may be more private depending on religious preferences — but long family meals are an Easter tradition in many cultures.
Spent with family and close friends, the most common Easter Practice is a meal together. A popular tradition is the decoration of eggs, and a treasure hunt for them.
Head over this Easter weekend to destinations where you can enjoy all of this as well as unique Easter specials, and cities in all their springtime glory:
- Buenos Airesis home to the Holy Land theme park (Tierra Santa), and with the famous carnival season is coming to a close, so the festivities and celebrations that take place often coincide with Easter. Street parties, murgas, parades, festivals and processions are all par for the course in the lead up to and during Holy Week, so prepare to get amongst it with the locals.
- In Jamaica, the locals spend Sunday at Churchgiving you a perfect opportunity to do some quiet exploring of the town, and Easter Monday is spent lounging by the beach. Bands will be playing all kinds of music from reggae to calypso, and outside will be windy so you’ll see plenty of kites lining the sky.
- Tokyo is a not much thought of yet incredibly worth it travel destination for Easter. Being springtime, the whole city is covered with Cherry Blossoms making it a pink delight. There is also a Chocolat de Easter festival by the Valrhona chocolate company, which showcases crazy Easter-themed chocolate displays along with family friendly activities; and pick up some cute, festive treats at bakeries around the city. Tokyo Disneyland also promises an exciting Usatama on the Run parade. Tokyo DisneySea has a new Easter theme featuring newly hatched Usapiyo chicks! The new characters appear in a special harbor show and on decorations, and of course, there’s lots of merchandise, too.
