Fashion has always been a statement that conveys our choices, believes and speaks volumes about the person we are. It is a medium of expression that has been used far and wide to display, to protest and to express.
Joy Villa, an American Singer used her Fashion for that very purpose at the Grammy Awards held on Sunday at Los Angeles. An Angel of Trump in Silver, her floor length gown was a shining reflective surface that when Villa tore open revealed a second outfit underneath – a black-and-white dress with a brick design. Her head was adorned with the Crown of Lady Liberty made of a row of metallic spikes giving her an edgy look. Her Jewellery was well matched and chunky. Her necklace seemed to be made of Barbed Wire.
While one hand showed off her ensemble, the other held a clutch that said, ‘Make America Great Again’ And written loud and clear at the back of her gown were three words, ‘BUILD THE WALL’
The outfit was created by L.A.-based designer Desi Lee Allinger-Nelson of Desi Designs Couture who in an Instagram post pre-even captioned a disclaimer for the unique, one-of-a-kind piece of art with a statement saying, “”The views, thoughts, and opinions expressed by my clients are not necessarily the same as my views, thoughts, and opinions.”
The trademark of Donald Trump’s presidency is his “big, beautiful wall” which promises America will be safe again. This had resulted in the shutdown of the US Government for a historic period of 35 days!
Trump’s looks at the border with a very black and white vision – His side speaks the language of law, hard work and freedom while the other side is all about criminality, gangs and drug smuggling.
Building of the wall, which hasn’t yet begun will result in the hopes of thousands of migrants who try to make it to the US every year dying.
For the people on the other side of the wall, it is all fear and chaos.
People are divided on both sides of the fence. Some like Villa are all out supporters, some support in secret. Some protest out loud and some are silent spectators.
