Flight 302 was bound for Nairobi from Ethiopia when it plunged to the ground shortly after take-off on Sunday, killing all 157 people on board. The pilot reported back to air traffic controllers that he was having flight control problems and requested to return immediately. Here are 3 of the worst flight disasters in History.
Turkish Airlines Flight 981: – 346 dead
An incorrectly closed latch in the cargo hold was the cause of this accident n 3rd March, 1974. The flight crashed in a forest in France while travelling en route from London to Paris. The door burst open mid-flight causing an explosive decompression which is basically when pressurized air is sucked out of the cabin. Due to the force of sir being sucked out, several rows of seats were completely ripped out of the plane along with the passengers occupying them. The floor collapsed too. Unable to land, all 346 passengers became victims.
Charkhi Dadri: Mid-air Collision
This collision was bad! On 12th November, 1996, two flights collided in Delhi. No one aboard the Saudi Arabian Airlines Flight 763 and Kazakhstan Airlines Flight 1907 survived. There were 349 passengers in total. The mishap was due to the pilot of Kazakhstan Airlines Flight 1907’s having difficulty in communicating with the air traffic control and descended too quickly on their approach to Delhi airport, putting them directly in the path of the Saudi Arabian plane. It could’ve been worse if the planes were at full capacity.
Nigeria Airways Flight 2120 – 261 dead
On July 11, 1991 during take-off from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia towards Sokoto, Nigeria, a fire burned through the floor because a deflated tire had overheated resulting in passengers started falling from the bottom of flight . The plane crashed shortly thereafter.
