Cogne is an old mountain community in the Alps in the north-west part of Italy. The people of this popular tourist destination have lived there for centuries can trace back their ancestry to the distant past. The currency used in Cogne is the Euro, as in the rest of Italy.
Cogne is beautiful during the summers and the winters. Whenever you travel there, ensure you have appropriate clothing as you will be around 1500m above sea level and the activities you might want to take part in may be even higher
In the summers, the valleys and meadows with wild flowers and forests of pine that stretch for miles against the backdrop of the Alps make for a sight that looks like paradise.
In the winters, Cogne is a snowy wonderland with white in every direction.
1. Deveteya de Cogne
The festival of Harvest and herding takes place every October as the herds return from the mountains in summer. The streets are covered in flowers. There are flags, banners and traditional décor all over the place. Music is played loud and boisterous. All herds – sheep, cows, horses, goats and donkeys are everywhere – they are paraded through the streets! There are exhibitions and people selling local crafts and wares.
Every year on the first Saturday of the month, traditional workshops to educate visitors about the local crafts, such sheep shearing and tailoring are set up at the Piazza Chanoux Cogne
The festival gives an amazing insight into Cogne’s pastoral way of life.
2. Summer Fun Festival:
Every summer to highlight the beauty of the mountains, bright décor and colours are found everywhere. There are fun activities everywhere around the city almost every day. There are concerts, evening events, tournaments and public shows that roughly take place around the same locations but are never similar to the previous years.
