Akshaya means everlasting or immortal. Akshaya Tritiya is one of the most auspicious days for Hindus. They believe starting new ventures or buying furniture and gold will be lucky and it their wealth) will grow forever.
Akshaya Tritiya is also known as Akha Teej. On this day, Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha are worshipped. The festival is celebrated on the third day of month Vaishakha (April-May) every year. On this day, donating to the poor is considered truly auspicious.
It is believed that the sixth incarnation of Vishnu, Lord Parasurama was born on this day and that Lord Ganesha began writing the epic battle of Mahabharata on this day. It is also considered to be the day when Treta Yuga began which is the time period when three of Lord Vishnu’s incarnations -Lord Ram, Vamana and Parasurama were born
This year, that is 2019, Akshaya Tritiya is on the 7th of May. Although the whole festival is considered as auspicious, for buying gold or performing puja the best time on Akshaya Tritiya 2019 or Akha Teej 2019 is 06:07 am on 7th May to 02:17 am on 8th May.
When the sun and the moon are exalted at the extreme point of brightness of the day- that is when Akha Teej or Akshaya Tritiya is celebrated.
Akshaya Tritiya or Akha Teej is considered truly auspicious for conducting a new business activity, for buying lands, bringing furniture or vehicles at home and for an auspicious Hindu marriage since the day is believed to be free from any malefic effects.
